What To Look For When Hiring An Ergonomic Consultant
Hiring a consultant begins with finding them, interviewing them and finding guidelines which both of you will work together. First you need to figure out if you really need a consultant. Be sure to take time and determine exactly what the problem is, what you want to accomplish and a time frame to do it in.
When interviewing a consultant find out what type of experience do they have in consultations similar to the one that they will be facing? Also, do they have references? How about a track record, such as how many years have they been consulting? It’s also good to ask what formal education and training to they have in ergonomic services. It’s also good to ask them if they’re willing to do part of the ergonomic work and not have them choose equipment and other expensive installations. Be sure to also ask if they can achieve the work in the time frame that you gave them. And of course be sure to ask them their fees? Be sure they lay all the fees out for you. Some consultants charge a fixed fee, or an hourly rate. If you choose a consultant that works hourly, this could increase your costs. Ask if travel time is included in the fees? Are there any other separate charges that you need to be aware of such as reports, design service, ordering items, installation, and demonstration fees?
Be sure to get all of this in writing before agreeing to service. Be sure to get a detailed description of the following services that will be provided by the consultant. Also, when will they provide these services? Who will be providing the services? Be sure to check the names of the consultants in the contract. Be sure that the agreed price is in the contract, and a list of everything that will be included, such as a written report, installations and demonstrations. Be sure to agree to a date that you may expect to see the written report. Ask for clear and concise statements in regards to products, and equipment
Always remember that the cheapest bid isn’t always the best choice. Don’t let yourself be pressured into using the services of any consultant if you don’t feel right about them. Be sure to always remember that the consultant is hired by you. Make sure to answer all questions that the consultant may have, so they may receive all the necessary information to make recommendations. Make sure that all of your questions are answered too.
